In the city where space is often limited, retrofitting the roof provides the opportunity to expand outdoor livable space. With this project our goal was to provide access to a roof level to create an open and inviting outdoor space for family gatherings. Glass railings provide expansive views of the city, and the skylights provide views and much needed daylighting deep into the interior of the historic row-house. The bar provides a place for guests to gather and mingle while soft seating offers a relaxing place to unwind and socialize. Planter boxes and natural materials bring nature into the space and create a sanctuary from the hustle & bustle beyond. The P-Street House Project was a DC rowhouse redesign that also entailed a complete interior remodel of the third level of the house. The goal was to provide the owners with a more functional & spacious third level containing a larger master’s suite and a guest bedroom. Purposeful selection of interior and exterior materials was the key design challenge in creating a seamless integration of the existing and the newly designed 3rd level and roof terrace.
