MacArthur House

TRANSFORMING AN EXISTING ATTIC INTO AN ADDITION TO THE HOUSE

After the 2020 pandemic, the definition of 'home' shifted from being a place of residence to a place that supports work as well. Our clients at the MacArthur House looked at ways to expand their current home in order to separate and support work and personal life. The attic was the obvious choice, and so the project expanded the house by repurposing the attic to become a home office and more. The attic was the obvious choice, and so the project expanded the house by repurposing the attic to become a home office. Large windows and skylights create a light filled attic in a space that once used to be a dark and uninhabitable place. The shape of the roof in the attic was able to provide the owners with ample storage. The primary suite was also re-imagined: a new walk-in closet creates much needed storage while acting as a threshold between the office and the main bedroom. A redesigned bathroom provides upscale finishes, a larger shower, and a sculptural bathtub for relaxing and unwinding after a busy workday.
