The design for this 6+ design modern luxury home in McLean, features a two-story home plus a fully finished basement, a three-car garage, as well as an outdoor pool and entertaining spaces. In a neighborhood with more of a traditional character & history, the design challenge was balancing a more modern language with the existing context. The design team started their work by first exploring the modernization of traditional forms such as gabled roofs while at the same time looking at creative ways of orienting the building to maximize daylighting and views out into the large wooded lot. The result was a series of farmhouse style pavilions interconnected through a modern glass filled double-height pavilion. The architectural material palette looks to traditional materials such as brick and locally quarried stone, while floor-to-ceiling windows and metal wall panels bring a touch of the modern to the project. A covered outdoor fireplace and grilling area provides a shaded area for the family to gather and share a meal, as the pool provides the perfect backdrop for entertaining and unwinding.
