Located within walking distance of the White House, the G Street Lobby revitalizes an aging building with a dynamic new entry and distinctive building amenities. The scope included a full redesign of the main lobby, replacement of storefront, canopy addition and interior public spaces improvements. The use of low iron glass on the lobby’s exterior curtainwall provided transparency between the interior and the exterior environments resulting in a vibrant street presence. Angular forms and sculptural design moves create a dramatic sense of arrival and aid in channeling pedestrian circulation from the street and into the building. The visitors are greeted with a balanced contrast of both warm and industrial finishes that highlight the modern quality of the design. Hospitality inspired furnishings throughout the lobby provide a sense of ease and luxury which encourage people to linger and relax. The amenity mix includes a semi-private workspace, coffee bar, beverage credenza and two lounge spaces. A sculptural fireplace and selective artwork add character and definition to the lobby experience. Signage and wayfinding were seamlessly married into the design creating a coherent building identity and a branded experience. The final product was a decidedly distinctive, welcoming, and cohesive design.
