At the beginning of 2020, Michael and I decided to start our own design practice. Then February came along, and the whole world shut down. Finding ourselves in a Pandemic, it almost seemed that we chose the completely wrong time to start a business. But the more we worked, the more we learned that our vision – PARADIGM office – may have actually come along right on time. It was coincidental that we wanted our practice’s motto to be “Disrupting the Mundane,” as 2020 has literally been a year when everything was disrupted.
“What comes out of PARADIGMoffice boils down to the love and passion we feel for what we do and who we do it for, and no pandemic can take this love away from us!”
The initial shock of our new reality was a bit difficult to grasp during the first couple of weeks into all of it, but I can confidently say that I think we handled it quite well! Once we had mastered Zoom, work continued on relatively normally and within a few months were able to begin sending invoices to current clients and take on new jobs. By March of 2020, we felt ready to make PARADIGMoffice official and had it registered in Washington, D.C.
The name ‘PARADIGMoffice’ came to us because in the year 2020 we have experienced quite the paradigm shift. Not only throughout the world, but the world that is…was…our comfort zone. 2020 has been a year of commercial offices turning into home offices and remote working, finding positivity in strength within ourselves, being firm in our decisions, and working just as hard as we were planning to prior to such shifts.
As we enter the second half of the year and settle into this new and exciting endeavor, I have to admit that we are still extremely thrilled and anxious to see what comes next. We plan and are excited to continue to disrupt the mundane in order to elevate people’s lives as well as our own. In the end, what comes out of PARADIGMoffice boils down to the love and passion we feel for what we do and who we do it for, and no pandemic can take this love away from us.
